Zille urges Shiceka to fix what is broken

DA leader Helen Zille yesterday criticised Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sicelo Shiceka for neglecting municipalities that were in dire straits. Addressing residents of Shayamoya in the Kokstad municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, Zille said Shiceka was targeting municipalities that worked. She said Shiceka should focus on Kokstad and not Cape Town, where her party governed. "This is despite (Cape Town) being rated number one in the country for service delivery. His priorities are wrong," she said. Shayamoya was facing water supply and sanitation problems. Zille said 90 percent of officials were appointed not for their skills, but for connections with the ANC. "This explains why you are in this situation," she said. - Sapa
