40 years for bridge thug

By Noelene Barbeau

Two of the hijackers who threw Durban woman Kalisha Seevnarain off a bridge in Umkomaas last Friday night were jailed for long stretches on Friday.

Wandile Nsibande, 20, was given a 25-year term while Sibusiso Dlamini, 29, will have to serve 40 years.

Magistrate Annand Maharaj said: "The concern to the court is that in a number of cases the level of crime is beyond comprehension.

"There is no need to inflict so much pain or suffering on the victim."

A third accused, who was initially charged as an adult and is now claiming to be 16, is due to appear before a Durban magistrate next Wednesday.

A fourth suspect is being sought.

Seevnarain, 26, is still in ICU after she was hijacked, held at gunpoint and thrown off the Umkomaas bridge last Friday night.
