Fuel price hike looms next week
The retail price of petrol will rise next week, the Energy Department said yesterday.
The price of all grades of petrol would increase by 27 cents a litre. The wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content will rise by 25 cents a litre.
Diesel with a 0.005 percent sulphur content will increase in price by 26 cents a litre.
Some taps dry in Joburg next month
Water cuts had been planned across Joburg in December for infrastructure upgrade work. Johannesburg Water said yesterday there would be no water in various areas on December 3, 5 and 7.

White diamond fetches R47m
A 168-carat white Cullinan diamond has been sold for $6.28 million (R47m), diamond supplier Petra Diamonds said yesterday.
The diamond, regarded as being of exceptional colour and quality, fetched about $37 380 a carat when it was sold to an undisclosed buyer on Thursday.
Lotters' lawyer withdraws over fees
The lawyer representing Nicolette and Hardus Lotter, who are accused of killing their parents, yesterday withdrew his services to the pair.
Danie Grundlingh asked the Durban High Court to allow him to withdraw following the court's decision not to allow the Lotters to use their deceased parents' money to pay fees.
Sun City fires security guards
A group of Sun City security officers had been fired after Cosatu threatened a work stoppage in support of five employees who said they were strip-searched, the company said yesterday. Police said one person had appeared in court charged with indecent assault after five complaints were laid.
Kunene faces trial for muder bid
Convicted felon Muziwendoda Kunene will go on trial for the attempted murder of his son in April, the Pretoria Regional Court ruled yesterday. The IT specialist allegedly shot his son Msebenziwenkosi in 2007 in a bid to prevent him testifying against him in the murder case of estate agent Lynne Hume.
Trinidad and Tobago visa fraud warning
The High Commission for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago yesterday warned against fraudulent visas circulating in SA and other African countries. It called on travel agencies to register with the commission to protect their clients. - Briefs by Sapa
