IAAF meeting to dodge Semenya sex test discussion
November 19, 2009 Edition 4
WASHINGTON: Caster Semenya's case will not be discussed at tomorrow's IAAF council meeting in Monaco pending completion of tests on the athlete, the International Association of Athletics Federations said yesterday.
The 18-year-old Semenya, who stormed to victory in the women's 800 metres at the world championships in Berlin in August, underwent sex verification tests in South Africa and Germany after questions about her gender, and a panel of experts has been studying the results for the IAAF.
Australia's Daily Telegraph, citing an unnamed source, reported in September that Semenya was intersexed, with male and female sexual characteristics.
The IAAF has not confirmed the report. - Reuters
