A six-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on Durban's Snell Parade near eThekwini Beach this afternoon.
It is thought that the boy had been one of many who had flocked to the beach and had been crossing the road and making his way to the shore.
Midway across the motorway the boy was struck by a car which subsequently sped off.
He sustained serious head and spinal trauma and was stabilised by quick thinking eThekwini Lifeguards who had been on duty at the beach.
Netcare911 Paramedics attended to the boy in the lifeguard station before he was transported by ambulance to Addington Hospital.
In another incident a woman was critically injured when she was struck by a taxi in the intersection of Grey and Leopold Streets, central Durban, this afternoon.
Netcare911 Paramedics found the critically injured woman writhing on the roadway.
She sustained polytraumatic injuries and was stabilised at the scene before she was rushed by ambulance to Durban?s Addington Hospital for further medical care.
