The flyover, including an airbus, wowed the audience after President Jacob Zuma was sworn in at the Union Buildings on Saturday.
After Zuma uttered those all important words: "So help me God", the 21-gun salute exploded though the air.
The airforce, however, stole the show with a diamond formation of jets soaring above the balcony as Zuma looked on through a glass window behind him.
The aircraft performing the flyover were an A340-400 and two A340-600s.
The SA Airforce also participated with four helicopters brandishing the SA flag cruising past the venue.
The crowd continued to shout their approval as stunt planes flew overhead, with a trail of smoke following.
Immediately after Zuma took the oath, two men jumped up and gave each other a high five with all the enthusiasm they could muster.
Even emergency services staff abandoned their post and gathered to congratulate each other and pump their fists in the air. - Sapa
